Welcome to the new website, YogiAlicia.com and the blog, THOUGHTS, where I will share some of my musings, experiences, questions and messages.
On my journey to India last year, I came to really appreciate the gesture and the word, Namaste, where we join our hands together at the heart center to welcome another or as a gesture of respect.
It stems from the belief that we are all connected to the Divine or a Supreme Consciousness. Each one of us has this Divine spark inside of us, located at the heart center or the heart chakra. It is therefore an acknowledgment of the soul in one person by the soul in another.
Namaste also has the meaning of bowing, as in “I bow to you.” We usually perform Namaste by joining our palms together in front of the chest, closing our eyes and bowing our heads.
Two of my favorite definitions of Namaste is as follows:
- “The Divine in me honors the Divine in you.”
- “I honor the place in you in which the entire universe dwells.
I honor the place in you which is of love, of truth, of light and of peace.
When you are in that place in you and I am in that place in me, we are one.”
Thank you for joining me on this yoga journey.
